A Jazzfest Weekend!

A great weekend of music at the Five Points Jazz Festival, and the Estes Park JazzFest, both sponsored in part by the great jazz radio station KUVO.

The Hot Tomatoes Orchestra at the KUVO Stage
The great trumpeter Hugh Ragin strolling Welton Street before his performance
Good friend, and great percussionist Tom Tilton, sporting a fullbeard, checking out the scene
The scene outside Brother Jeff's. Is that KUVO DJ Rodney Franks on the left?
The Future Jazz Project in performance at the Crossroads Theater
KUVO DJ Wendy Fopeano singing "Little Sunflower" at a packed Blackberries Lounge
Hugh Ragin and the Latin Express performing at Crossroads

Closing out the day, the great Sammy Mayfield Blues Band on the KUVO stage
Check out the crowd!
Sunday, I headed up to Estes Park to catch a bit of the second day of the Estes Park Jazzfest . Here are few pictures of the OTone Brass Band, who I had the pleasure of first hearing at a KUVO studio performance. These guys are good!
The main reason for the trek was to hear Javon Jackson, who had the great Les McCann on keyboard, and David Gilmore on guitar (no, not the David Gilmore of Pink Floyd!). I first heard Les McCann way back in 1970 while I was a student at my alma-mater Lincoln University. I used to check out Javon Jackson playing at the legenday El Chapultapec when he was still a high school student. Click on the link to read about his great career since those days at The Pec.
Les and Javon performing Amazing Grace
A little "playing around"!

An added bonus of the drive up to Estes, was seeing a dozen or so Ferrari's, a few Porsche's, and a Bentley Continental ragtop crusing down Highway 36!
