F-Stop Beyond

A couple of weeks ago I received an email from Ron Dawson, founder and creative director of Cinematic Studios. Ron has recently been named to the EventDV 25, one of the top 25 event videographers in the industry as voted by his peers. Ron wanted to include me in a tribute to Black History month as he put it, "as one of the high profile African Americans in the pro photo community." I didn't know:-)! Being in the company of photographers Matthew Jordan Smith, Jeff and Julia Woods, Joe Photo, Robert T. Williams, and Jesh de Rox, among others, I was very humbled by his request and you can listen to the interview on F-Stop Beyond here. Be sure to listen to all the other interviews too!

I'm going to make a few subtle changes to my website over the coming week. A new color scheme and new images. This will be in anticipation of the new BroxtonArt website which should be up sometime in April. Let me know what you think of the changes.

Last Thursday I attended the ICON Awards, and I though it might be appropriate to wear a jacket and tie as opposed to my uniform of choice, solid color t-shirts. My wife wasn't home when I left, so she had no idea. When I came home, she was so impressed that she insisted on taking my picture. Here it is for all to see!
One more thing, if anyone out there is into bands like Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Gentle Giant etc, check out the internet radio station morrow.com

Louise and Sean - Wrap up

The last couple of days of a wonderful wedding and excellent trip. I love receiving unsolicited thank you notes from my clients. This time I'll be the one to give a big Thank You to Francis for giving me the honor of photographing her sister's wedding; to Louise and Sean for being a great couple to work with and especilly Louise for being a stunning bride and never complaining about the heat; to their friends for being very cool and fun; and her parents, Ann and Bruce for being so generous and tremendous hosts and just plain great people to get to know. Be sure to check out Frances' blog for a bunch of great pictures that she took during the trip.

Here are some images from our zipline tour in the rain forest.
These are cocoa pods.
Check out the spikes on this cedar tree.
Fearless photographer Frances! How's that for a bit of alliteration! Here's the accident. We were on our way to pick up a few souvenirs when we were hit while attempting to make a left turn. Notice that the driver was passing us illegally; crossing the double yellow line.
Tell him Frances!
We were very fortunate that he didn't T-Bone us!
Probably my favorite picture from the week of Louise and her mom.
These were taken after Rob returned from his adventure. He was missing for about 6 or 7 hours. We were thinking the worst, but he was delayed by a horrible accident that he witnessed and couldn't communicate with us to inform us of the situation. These next 3 images were taken with the Nikon D3 at iso 25,600!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

I took a couple of pictures of my wife Pat during the week too!

Louise and Sean - Reception

I'm a bit late in getting the reception post up due to attending the ICON awards last night. Congratulations to all the winners! Especially Laura Hannah, Faye Gardenswartz, Lisa and Henry Mares, Barb Feld, and Mike and Dave of Design Works.

It was the first time that I have attended the ICON awards party and it was all it was hyped up to be! The theme was a party at the Playboy Mansion, and it was complete with Hef and a bevy of bunnies! Linda Bluhm, who I miss dearly as a wedding coordinator, did a great job with the linens as did all the vendors, most of whom I've had the opportunity to work with at weddings.

The surprise of the evening was Electric Ladyland. Tracy La Guardia, who has performed at many weddings that I have photographed with her string quartet A Touch of Class, blew everybody away last night with their premier performance of her jazz/rock all female electric string band. Catch them if you can, they're HOT!

The ICON awards are sponsored by Confetti Magazine. A large part of the ticket price goes to the charity of your choice, plus they make a drawing to donate an additional $10,000 to one charity. A big thank you to Terry Vitale, President, Joan Silar, Associate Publisher, and the rest of the staff for putting on a fabulous event. Check out the current issue of Confetti. Broxton Art photographs are throughout the magazine including a featured wedding at Beano's Cabin. Krista, my assistant photographer, shot the cover photo! I'm like a proud father with her photo getting selected!

Now on to a selection of Louise and Sean's reception photos
A toast!
The first dance with a song from her sister Jesse.
Louise and her dad swinging!
Dad and mom show how it's done.
Who invited this critter?!
I love capturing the parents and grandparents having a little romance on their children's wedding day.
Tomorrow you'll see us on the zipline through the rain forest.
