Trelexa Foundation - The Inaugural Fundraiser

Thursday night I had the honor of photographing the first benefit for the Trelexa Foundation at the Space Gallery on Santa Fe. The Trelexa Foundation was founded just over a year ago by Angela Coleman and her step-father Ken Watkins after the tragic death of Ken’s daughter and Angela’s step-sister Rachelle due to a domestic violence situation. She left behind two very young children, Tre, and Alexa, whom the non-profit has been named after. Their father is sentenced to life in prison for murder. Domestic Violence is a problem that affects families of all socio-economic classes and all races. The Trelexa Foundation’s goal is to raise awareness about domestic violence and provide support for programs and organizations that already work with and help those in need of getting away from dangerous situations for them, and often times, their children.

All proceeds raised through this event were given to the Trelexa Foundation to provide resources and assistance to victims of domestic violence, particularly the children who are devastated as a result of violence in their homes.

My very dear friend Frances Marron, graciously donated her fabulous fineart photography to this first ever art show and benefit. To quote Frances, “The theme of our event, ‘Flow,’ has a lot of meaning both in what is obvious from the collection of art itself, and in what might not be so obvious on the surface. Personally, I like to believe there is a natural flow to the way life works out and that we are all subject to the tragic circumstances that exists in this world. But what is beautiful about this natural flow, even in the darker moments, is the positive changes that are effected as a result.”

A silent auction featured items by other artists and merchants too, including a helicopter ride over the Continental Divide with breakfast in Granby.
